An Organization Focused on Solving Last-Mile Access Risks in Himalayan Villages
Nauladhara Gram Vikas Samiti works to design and implement structured, terrain-appropriate solutions for improving access, safety, and village stability.
Who We Are
About The Organisation
Nauladhara Gram Vikas Samiti is a registered grassroots organization based in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, working on last-mile access and village system stability in remote Himalayan regions.
Its work is based on a clear premise:
Village decline in hill regions is not caused by a single issue—it is the result of interconnected system failures.
In many remote settlements, lack of safe access, weakening natural resource systems, livelihood instability, and demographic shifts reinforce each other over time.
This leads to:
- increasing burden on women
- reduced viability of agriculture
- limited access to essential services
- and eventual outmigration
The organization focuses on designing and implementing structured, terrain-appropriate solutions that restore these systems and improve long-term settlement viability.
Context
Why this work is necessary
Remote Himalayan villages face interconnected risks driven by lack of access, geographic isolation, and changing demographics.
- Absence of road and emergency access
- Increased burden on women due to outmigration
- Declining water sources and agricultural viability
- Exposure to wildlife and terrain risks
These are not isolated issues—they represent a systemic failure of last-mile access and village support systems.
